| The unit was formed from the column "Mera", led by anarchist Cipriano Mera. The new division was incorporated - along with the 11th and 12th Divisions - into the new IV. Army Corps. Shortly after its creation, the 14th Division had to face the "Corpo Truppe Volontarie" offensive in the Guadalajara sector. With the support of other republican divisions, the enemy attack was stopped. On March 18, 1937, the 14th Division operating on the right wing of the Republican Forces and the 11th Division with the support of 70 Soviet T-26 tanks attacked and captured the city of Brihuega. The Italian forces of the Corpo Truppe Volontarie fled, leaving prisoners and numerous war materiel. At the end of March, the front stabilized after the Republicans managed to regain much of the territory. In July 1937, in the face of the Battle of Brunete, the unit was originally placed in reserve. It intervened at the end of the fighting, after the defeat of the 11th Division. On 24.7. it was planned to free Lister's forces from the front line, but fighting prevented it. On the morning of July 25, units of the 14th Division launched a strong counterattack southwest of Brunete against enemy forces, counting on the support of the Republic's aviation. Despite her efforts, she failed to maintain a strong position, although Franco's pressure eased the same day. After the fighting in Brunete, the division returned to the front of Guadalajara, where it remained for the following months without interfering with the relevant operations. In the spring of 1938, it was sent to the Levantine front as a reserve unit, which served as a backup for other units damaged by enemy offensives. In March 1939, some of her troops took part in Casad's coup. This was the case with the 70th Joint Brigade, which occupied various strategic points in Madrid on the morning of March 6, including the Alameda de Osuna, the Ministry of Finance and the Telefónica building. Members The 35th, respectively. and the 50th Mixed Brigade. The 14th Division disappeared shortly afterwards, with the end of the war. |
