Když začala ofenzíva Ebro, 6. srpna 1938, překročila řeku, aby uvolnila síly 35. divize v Corbera, a pokrývala trojúhelník Villalba-Corbera-Vértice Gaeta. | On April 19, 1938, the 123rd Mixed Brigade was renamed the 84th Mixed Brigade and became part of the 60th Division. The unit was stationed in Vallfogona. The first combat task entrusted to the new brigade was to move to the Balaguer bridgehead to cover the sector that led from the Tárrega Highway to the Segre River. On May 22, 1938, she launched an attack on L´Assentia, reached the first houses of the city, but was eventually repulsed. When the Ebro offensive began on August 6, 1938, it crossed the river to unleash the forces of the 35th Division at Corbera, covering the Villalba-Corbera-Vértice Gaeta triangle. On August 13, it launched an unsuccessful attack on Gandes. Here she would resist the onslaught of the Francoist counter-offensive for 8 days until he had to withdraw to Vertex Gaeta. On August 21, 1938, she definitively lost her position and suffered losses that affected 50% of her troops, including her commissioner Bustillo, while Commander Uriarte was wounded and the brigade was virtually destroyed. On September 3, 1938, she withdrew from the bridgehead but only as a military garrison to La Venta de Camposines. After the Battle of Ebro, the unit was in such a state that it could not take part in the campaign in Catalonia. When she was sent to Ibars de Urgel on December 5, 1938, the brigade could be considered infirm. |
