Now for his 68sqn claims. The place of combat is quite vague as the info is taken from his log-book. However, due to their patrol radius, I am assuming most occurred over the channel.

doplnění k Čs.letcům On 27. June 1944 was crew F/Lt Josef Čapka, DFM – F/LT G.T.Williams,DFM from 68 squadron in Beaufighter Mk.VIF KV974(WM-R) on day training flight. They encoutered US Liberator and Čapka made formation with him but rear gunner started fire and set Beaufighter on fire. Čapka made carash landing and was badly hurt (he lost left eye). Williams bailed out before crash. vis. Friendly fire WWII forum.12oclockhigh.net › ... › Allied and Soviet Air Forces
Každopádně dne 27. června 1944 letěl F/Lt. Josef Čapka, DFM s radarovým operátorem F/Lt. Wiliamsem, DFM na služební či cvičný let (nešlo tedy o bojovou operaci) s dvoumotorovou stíhačkou Bristol Beaufighter Mk.VIF s trupovým označením WM-R (KV974).
Okolo 15:30 nad anglickým pobřežím potkali americký čtyřmotorový bombardér Liberator, Josef Čapka chtěl využít příležitost a vyzkoušet si cvičný útok. Zranění (a následná ztráta oka) znamenalo konec Čapkovy pilotní kariéry. vis.www.fronta.cz

Diskuse
