| The 44th Mixed Brigade was formed on 31 December 1936 with columns commanded by infantry commander José Mª Enciso Madolell, who was captain of the presidential battalion in Madrid at the beginning of the war. The brigade defended the Madrid front and was first concentrated in Barajas for training. After completing the training, it became part of the 8th Division. She had her baptism by fire during the attack on the Hospital Clínico de la Ciudad Universitaria on January 17, 1937, but did not intervene in the battle of Jarama. The 44th Mixed Brigade was always subordinate to the 8th Division and covered the sector from El Pardo to the Sierra, a front on which no activities other than the positional war itself took place. On March 10, 1939, she left her position between Villafranca del Castillo and Cerro de los Ángeles, and went to Madrid to support the Communist Party, without her presence being used to decide in the fight against Casado. As a result of this attitude, at the end of the uprising, their commanders were deposed and replaced. The 44th Mixed Brigade ceased on March 27, 1939. |
